On Thursday the 24th of March, The Boat Doctor was invited to provide a Marine Electronics presentation at the Royal Cape Yacht Club, in Cape Town, South Africa. This follows two weeks of successful ABYC Electrical and Marine Systems certification courses taught at the CTBI premises at the Elliott Basin in Cape Town Harbor.

Winch service for SV Rhapsody – 42′ Hinckley Sloop

Slideshow of the service of one primary winch for this vessel. Total winch service included both primaries, the cockpit coaming winches and the mast mounted halyard winches. This included cleaning off all of the old grease by soaking the parts in WD40 before using a toothbrush to bring them back to like new condition and coating all moving parts with Lewmar brand winch grease and a couple of drops of Lewmar pawl oil for the pawls and pawl springs, before putting the puzzle back together again.

Complete upgrade of the Pilothouse Chartplotter with a new Simrad GB40 15″ display, GB40 Computer, GPS unit, Simrad NAIS300 A.I.S. unit with GPS and AIS Antenna and Simrad’s new BR20 Broadband radar.

Note: This installation required networking on multiple platforms, including NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000, Ethernet and Simrad’s proprietary SimNet system, including port selection and reallocation within the Simrad AP20 Autopilot system.

Before, during and after pictures of VEI marine computer upgrade to a new VEI Marci Pro, with the latest Nobeltec Admiral Pro chartplotting software and integration with existing NMEA inputs and Simrad Autopilot.

Note existing controls on dashboard, NMEA 0183 input via Edgeport USB converter and wired and wireless USB hub, that needed to be compatible with the new computer
